What am I purchasing ?

When you purchase a digital download from Stackpole Books, you are purchasing a license to an electronic version of the book, project, or pattern. You may choose the PDF format, or the EPUB format, where available. The PDF format matches the book's printed page and layout, and works well for heavily illustrated books on larger laptop or tablet screens. The EPUB format allows reflowable text and is better suited for the smaller screens of mobile reading devices or books which are predominantly text.

You will not receive a printed book unless you order it as a separate item.

What software do I need ?

To read our eBooks, both PDFs and EPUBs, on Mac or PC computers you must use the Adobe Digital Editions reader (ADE) which creates an ID and registers the license you have purchased. You must install Adobe Digital Editions in order to view our eBooks on your computer. Adobe Digital Editions is FREE, works on both Mac and PC environments, and can be downloaded by clicking here. ADE is very easy to use and enables you to customize your reading experience.

Note that Adobe Digital Editions software is different from Adobe Reader software, which you may already have on your computer.

How do I download my eBook ?

Once you purchase your eBook through our website, there are three ways to download your eBook file.

Method #1: After purchasing your eBook, you can download it instantly from your Order Confirmation screen while still logged into your website account. Click on the active "Download immediately" link shown on the Order Confirmation screen. You will receive a URL Link with the suffix .acsm in your computer's "Downloads" folder. Click on this URL link to launch Adobe Digital Editions and receive your eBook file.

The eBook file downloaded to your computer will be placed in the folder "Documents", in subfolder "Digital Editions". The eBook file will be named by the printed book's title. Make sure you have Adobe Digital Editions open, then open your eBook through the ADE application menu. To resume reading later, simply open ADE, select the title from your Library, and resume where you stopped.

Method #2: After purchasing your eBook, you will receive an email receipt from stackpolebooks.com that includes a link. The "Click here to DOWNLOAD your ebook now" link allows you to download the eBook to your computer without being logged in to our website.

Can I use my eBook on my tablet and other devices ?

If you have authorized your computer, Adobe Digital Editions does not "lock" your eBooks to that computer--they are assigned to you through your Adobe ID. This means that you can read your items on up to six computers (Mac or PC) and six supported mobile devices (Android, Apple iOS, Barnes and Noble Nook, Sony Reader, etc). You must use the same Adobe ID on each device. Before you can transfer items between computers, you must authorize both computers with your Adobe ID.

To view our files on an Apple iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, etc.), you will need to use a third-party ACS DRM compatible reader application. Two free, quality options are Bluefire and txtr. Directions for using these applications are available at each company's website. Stackpole currently suggests using Bluefire.

To view our files on an Android device (many different phones and tablets), you will need to use a third-party ACS DRM compatible reader application. Three free, quality options are Aldiko, Bluefire, and txtr. Directions for using these applications are available at each company's website. Stackpole currently suggests using Bluefire.

For general instructions from Adobe on transferring files between authorized devices, please visit the Adobe Digital Editions Help page.

Due to the increasingly large and diverse number of mobile reading devices, we cannot warrant that our eBook files will behave as expected on any particular mobile device version or configuration, including Android based, Apple iOS based, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader and the different versions of these units.  Generally speaking you may need to “port” or “sideload” your download from a Mac or PC to your device. It may also be necessary to use a free third-party eReader application such as Aldiko (Android only), Bluefire Reader (currently iOS only) , or txtr (supports both Android and iOS).  Bluefire Reader is popular among Android and iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) as it can allow for purchase and download of the title directly onto your device without the need for sideloading. Please note that our files are NOT currently supported on any version of the Amazon Kindle ereader.

Can I print pages from my eBook ?

Yes. You can print up to 20 pages from a single device.
